Make 2020 the year you discover losing weight the Slimming World way
By Kathryn Hayden
If, like me, you’re one of the many, many people who have set a New Year’s Resolution to lose weight many, many times, let’s stop for a minute to consider how this year can be different. How can you crack this so that this is the very last time, it needs to be your goal?
Over the years, I tried what feels like hundreds of different ways to lose weight. Until I found Slimming World.
This is less than a diet and more of a healthy way to live with weight loss as a result. Slimming World’s eating plan is called ‘Food Optimising’ – it focuses on what they call ‘Free Foods’. Most of what you eat will come from a list of foods that you don’t have to weigh, measure or count including:
Meat & poultry
Fat free dairy products
Rice, pasta & grains
Beans, peas and lentils
Vegetable proteins / meat replacements
The idea is to fill up on these foods, satisfying your appetite.
On top of these, you receive what they call ‘Healthy Extras’ – which are included to ensure you get the necessary fibre and calcium in your diet. Some of these will need to be weighed/measured, eg milk, cheese and cereal.
And then, on top of that, you also get what they call ‘syns’. Note that it’s with a ‘y’ not an ‘i’ as it stands for ‘synergy’ so although it is what you use to count your daily treats, they’re called syns because your success is due to the the combined effect of the three parts – free food, healthy extras and syns.
When you join a group, you can be sure your Consultant and your fellow members will be there with you every week – sharing recipe ideas and supporting you all the way.
You’ll discover you can make easy meals that the whole family can eat too. They even run a special programme for 11-16 year olds to help educate them in making the right food choices and setting them up for adult life without having to constantly worry about their weight.
Sounds too good to be true? It is…..go along to a group to find out more about it. Here’s a link to see a list of classes and times but if there’s none in your area, just visit www.slimmingworld.co.uk and enter your postcode to find your local groups.
